The Center for Victims of Torture is hiring a Psychotherapist/Trainer to join a mental health capacity building project. The Psychotherapist/Trainer will strengthen the quality of psychological services provided at a locally-run, torture treatment organization, and build the capacity of the organization to better meet the mental health needs of torture survivors. The position focuses on improving clinical supervision competencies and coaching and mentoring staff members to deliver quality services. Activities include assessment, training modules on supervision, and set up a clinical supervision model, as well as clinical discussion on cases in order to improve clinical capacity in working with target populations, particularly children.

Project Description:
The Partners in Trauma Healing (PATH) project supports independent, torture treatment organizations around the world to provide high-quality mental health services to survivors, and to build sound, financially stable organizations. The project focuses on 3 areas: mental health treatment and healing, program evaluation, and organizational development. The Psychotherapist/Trainer plays a critical role in strengthening psychological services at the assigned partner center.

We are an international nonprofit dedicated to healing survivors of torture. We offer rehabilitation services to those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocate for human rights and an end to torture. We are headquartered in Minnesota with offices in Africa and the Middle East.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Supervision and Training Modules: Assist in developing supervision systems. Provide individual and group clinical supervision to local mental health providers using case discussions, live supervision, co-therapy, and supervision of supervisors. Support staff-care and self-care through supervision. Design and deliver training modules related to clinical supervision. The supervision may focus on a particular content area, such as working with TF-CBT, children and families, working with SGVB survivors, or facilitating groups as well as general aspects of clinical supervision. Provide coaching and mentoring on technical skills, knowledge and approaches to supervision.
Supervision Guidelines: In collaboration with the Clinical Advisor, develop supervision guidelines. The document will include a supervision competencies framework (attitudes, knowledge and technical skills), a definition of clinical supervision, roles and rules, methods, suggestions and practical guidance.
Assessment: Collaborate with partner center and CVT monitoring & evaluation advisor in implementing assessment tools. Provide support to partner center mental health professionals in the implementation of clinical tools.
MHPSS Context Analysis: Collaborate with the project team and partner center to research and analyze the local context in relation to MHPSS interventions and contribute to a final report.
Reporting: Write and submit regular reports regarding clinical and training activities.
Program Evaluation: Track and ensure program objectives are met. Participate in the implementation of program evaluation.
Other Duties: Participate in other program and organization-wide activities, meetings and trainings. Complete administrative responsibilities. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations
Graduate degree in clinical psychology, counseling, clinical social work or psychotherapy
- 4 years of experience providing individual and group supervision in a variety of settings (trauma and torture settings preferred)
- 3 years of experience in a cross-cultural context and/or working with multicultural teams
- 3 years of experience in humanitarian contexts; preferable the Middle East
Preferred education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations
- Certification or licensure as a clinical psychologist or psychotherapist
- 6 years of experience providing individual and group psychotherapy
- Extensive experience providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents, families and SGBV survivors.
- Experience working with interpreters
- All psychological approaches are considered with a preference for integrative approaches (cognitive and humanistic based)
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with different clinical supervision approaches.
- Experience in developing supervision guidelines
- Experience in using standardized assessment tools
Competencies (knowledge, skills and abilities)
- Fluency in English required. Proficiency in Arabic and/or Kurdish preferred
- Extensive experience working with locally-run NGO partner organizations and negotiating multiple relationships within and between organizations
- Experience designing trainings on counseling approaches and sensitization to the effects of trauma and war that combine theoretical and practical components
- Skilled at carrying out program needs assessments and program development
- Skilled at working as a member of a team
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word and Excel)
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills
- Excellent skills in organization, attention to detail and time management (including the ability to meet deadlines)
- Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing program requirements, client needs, and political climate
- Interest in or commitment to human rights
