The Center for Victims of Torture is hiring a Resilience Programming Trainer to work as part of a global project that supports human rights defenders and civil society organizations operating in exile. The Trainer will take a leading role in the resilience domain, by designing and delivering tailored training on psychosocial care, guiding implementation of individual and organizational resilience building, and collaborating with other team members on achievement of project goals. We are seeking a competent mental health professional who brings a high level of cultural competence. This position reports to the IDREAM Project Manager and receives technical supervision from the Clinical Advisor for Mental Health.

IDREAM is a global capacity development project that supports human rights defenders and civil society organizations operating in exile to continue advocating for fundamental freedoms. The project works to increase solidarity and effectiveness among project partners by offering shared tools, resources, expertise, training, and mentoring, focused on 3 domains: effective human rights advocacy, individual and organizational resilience against stresses, and digital and physical security.

We offer rehabilitation services to those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocate for human rights and an end to torture. We are headquartered in Minnesota, and we have US offices in Atlanta and DC, as well as offices in Africa and the Middle East.
Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development and Training: Develop curriculum on psychosocial care for human rights defenders and others who have experienced trauma. Conduct trainings in-person, remotely, and on e-learning platforms. Document curriculum and develop manuals and other resources.
- Individual and Organizational Staff Support: Provide in-person and remote mentoring for project partners on resilience. Consult with human rights organizations in exile and project team members to assess, develop, and implement staff support practices, policies, and structures aimed at fostering both individual and organizational resilience. Support individuals and organizations in developing and implementing individualized integrated capacity building plans. Provide brief supportive mental health interventions to individual project partners as necessary. Conduct periodic site visits.
- Resilience Program Development and Integration: Ensure progress of resilience-related programming and activities to ensure achievement of projects’ goals and integrity of services provided. Collaborate with other project team members to design an integrated project with the other project domains, recommend changes in project activities, and support implementation of changes. Promote collaboration among all stakeholders, facilitate communication, and serve as a liaison.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare donor and other reports that document knowledge gained through the project. Participate in project evaluation.
- Other Duties: Participate in project team, department, and organization-wide activities, meetings and trainings. Complete administrative responsibilities. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations
- MA in psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, clinical social work or related field.
- Experience providing psychotherapy to survivors of trauma.
- Experience working with human rights defenders.
- Experience supporting organizational staff to maintain personal and professional well-being and to manage job stress and vicarious trauma.
- Experience working in cross-cultural contexts.
- International work experience with local or international NGOs.
Preferred education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations
- Advanced degree in international human rights or related field.
- Experience in project management.
- Experience providing remote staff support.
- Experience developing online curriculum and training.

- Strong understanding of latest research and practices on resilience, staff care and psychosocial support.
- Excellent skills in curriculum development and high-engagement training delivery with the ability to match level of content to the audience.

- Ability to travel up to 40% time internationally to developing countries. Some work sites may be located in politically unstable areas with limited amenities.
- In addition to English, fluency in Spanish is highly desirable.
